Welcome to G and G Academy, It's a bright shinning day for, and I am Ayorinde and at the end of this lesson you should be able to describe some effects of drug abuse on some parts of the body.
Now let me quickly show you a man. OK?
Let's assume this is a man with various parts in his body. OK? For example the eyes, mouth, OK? the heart, the liver, OK? and of course the respiratory system, OK? and of course we have the muscle. OK? Now what are the effect of drug abuse on all this few listed parts of the body.
Now let's start by first describing the EYE. When drug is being abused that is when drug is being taken in excess, are you getting it? It normally affect the part of the eyes, the pupils, OK, which is a part of the eye, OK? It will be dilated (It result into dilated pupils), OK? when drug is being abused, it result into dilated pupils
What about the mouth? In the mouth, you discover that the teeth, OK, will be grinding, OK? that is, the teeth will be reducing gradually, are you getting it? When you abuse drug, that is one of the thing that happens, are you getting what we are trying to say?
Now let's talk about the Skin. Now the skin; in the skin we normally have excessive sweating, are you getting it? Don't forget that when you abuse drug what you are doing is that you are taking drug in excess and of course the body will try to eliminate this drug, OK, they will try to excrete this drug because the drug is toxic, then the body will want to take it out of the body and that is why we have excessive sweating. Are you getting it? Because sweating is one of the of elimination of toxic substances from the body.
What about Numbness?
Also in the muscle, OK, we normally have some effects when drugs is being abused. The first one is jerky movements, another one is increased activity of the muscle, OK, the muscle will just be.... the activities of the muscle will just increase. What about convulsions? OK. What about loss of coordination of the muscle? Are you getting what we are just trying to say? OK? And of course this can result to cancer. Right.
Now let's talk about another one which is what? The circulatory system. Are you getting it? In the circulatory system, the circulatory system are just the vessels that are carrying blood from and to the heart. Are you getting it? And one of the thing that happen when drug is being abused is HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. That person is prone to high blood pressure. OK? Another one is in the brain. Are you getting it? The vessels that are carrying blood to the veins, (I beg your pardon), to the brain, are you getting it? They become damaged because some of this toxic substances (this drug you are abusing) will be deposited in the vessels carrying blood (Are you getting it?) to the brain. And because this drug are toxic to the body, they begin to damage the vessels and that is why we normally have high blood pressure. OK? Because the passage of the blood vessels is being reduced. Are you getting it? And the blood will now be moving at a higher pressure. Are you getting it? And of course in the circulatory system drug abuse can also result to clotting of blood. It can result to stroke. Stroke is brain attack, that is the blood that is flowing to the brain is being limited because of the vessel damage and because of high blood pressure. Are you getting it? So the brain can not receive enough oxygen from blood again and of course this leads to stroke which is also referred to as brain attack.
OK? now let's talk about the last, which is the HEART.
In the heart when drugs are being abused, one of the thing that happen is that.. there will be chest pain. Another thing is rapid heart rate, OK? That is the heart will be working at a rapid rate. Are you getting what we are trying to say? And of course the last one is the heart attack, OK? which is also as a result of the fact that the blood that is carrying.... the vessel that is carrying blood to the heart contain some toxic drugs, OK? and as a result of that the oxygen that ought to get to the heart is being reduced. And it will result to what? Heart attack. OK?
And now this is going to be the end of this lesson. In our next lesson we are still going to be talking more about the effects of drug abuse. Make sure that you don't miss that class.
